Sally Hemings, an enslaved woman, worked on the Monticello plantation of Thomas Jefferson. She was a household servant and companion for one of Jefferson’s younger daughters, Mary. Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence. He was also the third president of the United States. He had a 37-year relationship with Hemings and fathered several children with her. Recent DNA tests concluded that Heming’s children are connected to the Jefferson Bloodline.
