Dorothy Irene Height was an American administrator and educator. She was a civil rights and women’s rights activist. She specifically focused on issues of African American women, including unemployment, literacy, and voter awareness. She was president of the National Council of Negro Women for forty years. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994. She also received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004.
