Charity Adams Earley was the first African American to be an officer in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps. She was also the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. This unit was made up of African American women serving overseas during World War II. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School as valedictorian and from Wilberforce University in Ohio in 1938, majoring in math and physics. Kerry Washington portrays Charity Adams Earley as a lead character in the 2024 film The Six Triple Eight. The film shows the experience of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during their service in Europe.
