Hazel Dorothy Scott a classical pianist, singer, and actor performed as herself in several films. In 1924, Scott and her parents migrated to Harlem, New York. Hazel, a musical prodigy, studied classical piano with Paul Wagner, a Julliard professor. In the late 1930 and early 1940, her career blossomed. She became a regular performer. She was earning a weekly salary of $4,000 at New York’s elegant dinner club Cafe’ Society. In the summer of 1950, she became the first Black woman to host her own television show. The show was a 15-minute, three times a week showcase for her musical talent.
