C. Delores Tucker, born Cynthia Delores Nottage, has a long history in the Civil Rights movement. Tucker participated in the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches alongside the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and raised funds for the NAACP. In 1971 she was appointed Secretary of State in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1984, Tucker and New York Congress woman Shirley Chisholm founded the National Political Congress of Black Women. In 1990 she and 15 other women and men founded African American Women for reproductive Freedom. She played a key role as the convening founder. She also served as the national chair of the National Congress of Black Women, Inc (NCBW). She succeeded the Hon. Shirley Chisholm in 1992.
