Lillie Marie Pollard was a proud, strong willed, independent woman who did not hesitate to speak her mind. Pollard earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA in Business Administration and moved to San Diego, Ca. in 1972. She was an active voice for her community. She often spoke before the San Diego City Council. She addressed matters as varied as the “Toilet to Tap” program and “Stop” signs for Emerald Hills. She was President of the Emerald Hills Council. She was also a member of the Southeast Development Committee. Furthermore, she was one of the original “Friends” of the Malcolm X Library from its start. Pollard was a Lifetime member of the NAACP and a watchdog for the community making sure that Southeast San Diego was well served by the local politicians and the police department
