Norma Merrick Sklarek was a pioneering American architect. Sklarek was the first Black woman to license as an architect in the United States. She was the first Black woman honored as a fellow of the American Institute of Architecture. This occurred in 1966. Her major projects include the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo and Terminal One at the Los Angeles International Airport. She taught and lectured at architecture schools throughout the United States.
