Patricia Roberts Harris had a long, distinguished career as a lawyer, educator, and public administrator. Harris’ career in education centered around Howard University. She served as a full professor there. Later, she became the dean of the law school. She later served as the U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg and as an alternate delegate to the United Nations General Assembly and Economic Commission for Europe. She also served as the secretary of two federal departments. She led the Department of Housing and Urban Development. She also led the Department of Health and Human Services.
