Dimple Santos attended Sterling High School. She was nicknamed “Get the News, Spread the News Dimple” because she was a journalist for the school paper. Her childhood passion for singing and dancing later won her the crown as Jitterbug Queen of Rice County, Kansas. Opting to seek fame and fortune beyond Kansas, Santos took the train to California in 1946. She settled in San Diego with her husband of 62 years, James Santos. She worked briefly at a dental office, but it was her role as wife and mother that she fully embraced. While raising her seven children, Santos became prominent at Lincoln High School. She was a take-charge member of the parent booster club. Besides her natural nurturing talent as “everyone’s mom, Santos loved to sew and quilt. Dimple Santos was President of the Friends of Malcolm X Library 1998 – 2000.
