Charlene Mitchel was a freedom fighter of unimpeachable integrity. She was nominated by the Communist Party USA as its presidential candidate on July 4, 1968. She was the first Black Woman to be nominated for the presidency by any political party. Many remember her fearless commitment to the free Angela Davis. Her intrepid fight for justice will now be taken up by those who admired her will and determination. Mitchell died on December 14, at the Amsterdam Nursing Home in New York City, reportedly of natural causes.
